MEET THE BOARD

Kate Swan

Artistic Director

Kate Swan began her tenure as Artistic Director of 4th Wall Theatre by directing last season's A Man of No Importance. Other 4th Wall productions include The Wild Party, Sweeney Todd in Concert andThe Spitfire Grill. As a director and choreographer, Kate has worked extensively across the US in such theatres as Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Fireside Theatre, Seacoast Repertory, Lyric Stage (Texas), Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, Surflight Theatre, Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, Wings Theatre in Manhattan, and Skyline Theatre Company, where she also serves as a board member. As a performer, Kate appeared in the original Broadway company and 1st National tour of Disney's Beauty and the Beast; she became Associate Choreographer for all official Disney productions of the show worldwide through 2008, setting companies in Mexico City, Seoul, Sao Paulo, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She has taught musical theatre dance and musical theatre history at the high school and college levels, including at Purdue University and Muhlenberg College. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre from Northwestern University and is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

Bruce McCandless

Business Manager

Bruce McCandless brings a life-long love of theater to 4th Wall. He has been handling the business aspects of the group since 2005. As a student at the University of Delaware, he served as Box Office/Front-of-House Manager for the University Performing Arts Center. Following graduation, he worked in the same capacity for the Pennsylvania Stage Company, an Equity Regional Theater in Allentown. After relocating to NJ, he became active as an actor, director and technician. McCandless has worked with Civic Theatre Of Hudson County, Attic Ensemble, Allegro Productions, Montclair Operetta Club and Chatham Players. He has directed several shows and has won awards for acting as well as for costume design. He started onstage with 4th Wall with their first production and has continued both onstage and off from set design to props coordinator. McCandless works as a Financial Analyst for Geller & Company in New York City.

Matt Burns

Board Member

Matt Burns has worked with 4th Wall for several seasons. He enjoyed a successful career for over 25 years in the entertainment industry ranging from professional performer across the world in regional theatres, tours, and television to director, producer, and sound design. He was hand selected by Merv Griffin to star as principal singer/dancer at Resorts International Hotel/Casino in Atlantic City and understudied Michael Crawford in “EFX” at the MGM-Grand Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas. Burns resides in Basking Ridge, NJ where he owns and operates Audio Alchemy, a professional digital audio/MIDI recording studio. There he produces music and audio for a wide variety of sound design and multimedia applications and has designed sound for several theatres across New Jersey.

Jasmine Pai

Board Member

Jasmine Pai is joining 4th Wall after designing the scenery for The Fourth Wall/The Real Inspector Hound. She has been freelancing in and around New Jersey and New York since her graduation from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts where she received her BFA in Theatrical Design. She works extensively at local universities and high schools as well as regional theatre companies. She is a resident designer for both the Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken and the Garage Theatre Group in Teaneck.

Gwen Ricks-Spencer

Executive Director

Gwen Ricks-Spencer has been the Executive Director of 4th Wall since 2005. She is a founding member of the company and has been involved with all aspects of the group including: producing, directing, performing, coordination with our Education wing and everything in between. She received a Bachelors degree in Theatre and Government from Smith College (emphasis: Performance and Light Design) and a Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (emphasis: Performance). She has worked professionally as a performer with the Billie Holiday Theatre and Negro Ensemble Companies in New York, 12 Miles West and The PaperMill Playhouse in NJ, Michigan Ensemble Theatre, The Attic Theatre in Detroit, and Karamu House in Cleveland Ohio. An avid arts supporter, she has served as a Board Member for the Newark Community School of the Arts, 12 Miles West Theatre, the Essex County Arts Council, and the Montclair Operetta Club. She also served on the Essex County Arts Funding Review Committee. Ricks-Spencer is an Associate Director in Communications for a Big 4 accouting firm.

Martha Thalheimer

Company Manager

Martha Thalheimer brings over 30 years experience in theatre to 4th Wall. She has served as the resident stage manager since joining the company in 2005 and handles all aspects of production including coordinator with the arts center. Thalheimer spent many years at the Montclair Operetta Club working in box office, scene construction, costumes, props, lighting and stage management. She fully understands both sides of theatre: the creative as well as the business. She is an Account Executive for a local NJ insurance agency handling business clients insurance needs and holds a BS in pharmacy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Allied Health Science.



Kathi Iannacone

Board Member

Kathi Iannacone has been a part of the 4th Wall mission from its inception in 1996 as a founding member, and has served in capacities ranging from board president to production manager to performer. She brings over 25 years theatrical experience to the organization and has served on the Board of Trustees for Mt. St. Dominic Academy, AWNY Member (Advertising Women of New York), IRTS (International Radio and Television Society), and Vice-Chair of Parish Council at St. Malachy’s – The Actor’s Chapel in NYC. She graduated cum laude from Villanova Univ. with a B.A. in Communication Arts. When not producing or performing, Iannacone lives in NYC and is cast "professionally" in her biggest role, as a Senior Account Executive for the United Stations Radio Networks where she has worked for ten years and has been in the Radio Industry for 25+ years (WNEW-FM, MJI Broadcasting, WKTU-FM, WNBC-AM)

Paul Puccio

Board Member

Paul Puccio serves as 4thWall’s dramaturge. He brings to the company a long-time involvement with theatre and theatre criticism. As an undergraduate at St. Joseph’s University (Philadelphia), he acted and directed; while in graduate school, he also acted and directed at the Oxford Summer Seminar in England. Puccio is an associate editor of The Sondheim Review, and regularly writes for that magazine. He has also published in Reading Stephen Sondheim: A Collection of Critical Essays. Puccio is an Associate Professor of English at Bloomfield College, where he teaches courses in British literature and drama.
